From Farm to Flourish: How TIWAEA is Changing Lives in Ikot Adautor
On October 12, 2024, something extraordinary happened in Ikot Adautor, Essien Udim LGA. The Ikot Ekpene Chapter of TIWAEA, under the dynamic leadership of Mrs. Ime, who turned a typical farming outreach into a life-changing experience.
This wasn’t just about growing vegetables; it was about cultivating hope and resilience. Twenty-one farmers, some with farmlands, others with only a little backyard space were taught to grow pumpkin, cucumber, pepper, and waterleaf innovatively. Imagine growing a thriving garden in sacks when land is scarce!
But that’s just the beginning. These farmers walked away armed with powerful knowledge:
✔️ How to use organic and inorganic manure for timely plant nourishment.
✔️ Smart watering and pest control for bigger, healthier yields.
✔️ The importance of physical and mental health because a healthy farmer grows a healthy harvest.
The cherry on top? Each participant received improved cucumber seeds (SAIRA-F), organic manure, and a boost of purpose that will ripple through their lives and communities.
The heartfelt prayers and gratitude of the farmers reminded everyone that this work is more than agriculture, it’s empowerment, healing, and a pathway to food security.
