What do you get when you mix 33 motivated women, some determined local chickens, and a whole lot of organic know-how?

You get an eco-friendly flock ready to cluck their way into the future of climate-smart sustainable agriculture!

Thanks to a dynamic partnership between TIWAEA and the Alliance for Sustainable Livestock, women in Kaduna had a unique chance to learn all about raising local chickens in a climate-smart organic way. And who better to lead this charge than the ever-tenacious Soprinye Chatta, our incredible TIWAEA Chapter Leader in Kaduna, of which with her energy, this program was bound to soar—or rather, to lay the groundwork for success.

The Scoop on Organic Poultry Training

This training wasn’t just your standard “how-to” for raising chickens. It was all about transforming these women into eco-conscious poultry pros! No synthetic feeds or antibiotics here; instead, the ladies learned how to keep their chickens healthy with the goodness of Mother Nature’s pantry.

How to mitigate climate change in their poultry journey. From locally grown grains to fresh greens and herbs, the chickens are dining like true farm-to-table stars. Forget the commercial stuff! These women are now whipping up nutritious, affordable, and sustainable chicken feed from grains and herbs you can find right in the local market.

Here’s a little taste of what the training covered:

  • Think natural remedies for everything! They learned about using herbs to boost chicken immunity, so no need to rely on antibiotics or artificial treatments.
  • With ideas for housing that keeps birds safe and happy while minimizing the impact on the environment, the women are ready to build chicken coops that are both chic and sustainable!
  • Community Impact: More Than Just Chicken Feed

This collaboration isn’t just about a few well-fed chickens; it’s about climate-smart poultry production and uplifting entire communities! Here’s how these newfound skills will make a real difference:

📌 Boosted Family Nutrition: With fresh, organic chicken and eggs at home, families can enjoy tastier meals and better health.

📌 Environmental Goodness: By going organic, the women are cutting down on pollution and helping keep their soil and water free from chemical runoff.

📌 New Business Opportunities: With these new skills, the women can kickstart their own small-scale organic poultry farms, giving them financial independence while meeting local demand for quality, chemical-free poultry.

Soprinye Chatta: The Tenacious Leader Behind It All

We can’t talk about the success of this program without shining a light on Soprinye Chatta. Her dedication to making sustainable agriculture accessible and empowering for women has been truly inspiring. Her leadership rallied these women to take bold steps toward sustainability, proving that grassroots change can have a massive impact!

A Brighter, Greener Tomorrow

The TIWAEA and Alliance for Sustainable Livestock collaboration is more than training—it’s a movement towards healthier communities, empowering women, and a future where organic, climate-smart practices lead the way. This program is just the beginning of a long-lasting impact that will spread across the community like ripples in a pond—except these ripples are packed with organic chicken goodness!
