Adaku Osaronwaji
Adaku Osaronwaji is a dedicated professional with a background in Accounting, having graduated from Bori
Polytechnic in Rivers State, where she obtained her National Diploma in 1996. Her career began in 1997 as
a receptionist at the Eleme Chamber of Commerce, followed by a role as a secretary in a law firm in 1998.
In 2004, Adaku joined the Women in Oil initiative, where she developed a passion for advocating for
women's rights and empowerment in the agricultural sector. In 2017, she became involved with Kebetkache,
an organization committed to promoting peace in Rivers State. Since 2019, Adaku has served as the
Coordinator of the Small Scale Women Farmers Organization in Nigeria (SWOFON) and is currently the
Chapter Leader of the Tammy International Women in Agriculture Empowerment Association in Eleme.
Additionally, she is a proud member of UN Women.
As a full-time farmer, Adaku specializes in the cultivation and sale of cassava. Her entrepreneurial spirit has
led her to process cassava into various products, including odorless fufu, starch, flour, and garri, as well as
produce vitamin A-fortified cassava. Adaku is also committed to community development, organizing training
sessions for both young and older women farmers and working as an extension worker to advocate for rural
women farmers.
Adaku's advocacy efforts have yielded significant achievements. Through her initiatives, SWOFON has
successfully collaborated with the Ministry of Agriculture and various NGOs to secure essential agricultural
inputs, including seeds, fertilizers, and modern farming equipment. Currently, she is partnering with Joan
Serina Farms in Eleme to expand cassava production on a 50-acre plot of land, further enhancing the
livelihoods of women farmers in the region.
